Crowborough Rugby Football Club

U11's Match Report

Sunday 28th March 2010 - Crowborough `B` Festival - Home @ Steel Cross.

Sunday 28th March saw the Crowborough `B` Festival take place. It was lovely to see the sun shining and the mud & standing water all over our pitch but we've been used to that over the last few months.
Three Teams joined us for an existing day of rugby - Sevenoaks, Old Elthamians and Tunbridge Wells.
The team gelled straight away and gave 100% commitment to the game. They were passing down their lines and rucking over the ball at the drop of a hat. The `A` team could learn a thing or two from the `B` Team!!
Their positions were controlled and they stomped home with a 2-0 win. Try scorers were Harri Ingham & Nick Jones.
The team had a breather for a couple of games but then had two back to back. Next game we were up against Old Elthamians. This team regularly wins when they attend the Crowborough Festivals. Our team went straight onto the pitch with their heads high and, yet again, tried their hardest. A 0-0 draw showed just how close the game was.
A 2 minute breather then out against Tunbridge Wells. Yet again a fantastic game played by all. Harri Ingham racing through to score his second try of the day!
Final score of 1-1 and suddenly we had a total of 7 points. Yes !!!!! Silver medals for the Under 10's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would like to say from myself, Mark & Joe that we were ecstatic with that result and it was loovely to see the smiles on all of their faces. I would like to add a further thanks to Harrison & Harry who, although were kitted and gagging to get on the pitch, they watched and supported their team.
I would just like to take this opportunity to let you all know that I am hanging up my boots with the under 10's at the end of the season and moving back down to the under 6's. I have thoroughly enjoyed the last 5 years and it has been really exciting to watch the team grow but with 3 other children all playing in other age groups I feel I need to put time and effort into helping them grow within the club. I am sure you all understand and will look forward to hearing how well the under 11's are doing next season.
Thanks again but I'm still around for the next few weeks! There is no training this Sunday but coaching the following week preparing for the Westcombe Park festival.

Sunday 14th March 2010 - East Sussex Festival hosted at Eastbourne RFC

Ladies & Gents,
I would just like to say a big well done to the boys for Sunday.
Eastbourne was a glorious day with over 600 children competing. Crowborough, as a whole, did very well overall and won all their finals for which they competed. Under 10's performed very well considering the dreadful weather we have had over the past few months. Unfortunately I feel Sunday was the last time we can use that as an excuse though.
1st game against East Grinstead was a great effort by all. Some excellent tackles taking place and everyone appeared to be concentrating on the game. Unfortunately we lost 1 - 0 but this was a great effort and I am confident we could beat them in the near future.
2nd game against Eastbourne. My goodness they grow them big down there, or they can't count in years! They were a very large and confident team resulting in a 6 - 0 defeat.
Somehow Crowborough under 10's managed to pick themselves up straight away and go straight into a match against Hasting. 2 - 0 to Crowborough HOORAY!
Through to the plate semi-finals where we faced Lewes. A temporary lapse in concetration, tackling and knowing what rucks & mauls are meant we were beaten 4 - 1 and put into the "Plate Play - Off (Salver)" match against Hastings again.
What a game this turned out to be. Crowborough came out onto the pitch as different players! Tackles were being made, passing of the ball was going on, well they played well. Final result was a hammering of Hastings. I cannot remember the final score as I gave up at 4 - 0 to us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I nominated a Player of the Match due to their contibution to the game. This was for his sheer determination through ALL the games, ability to be in the right place at the right time and just play very well indeed. Congratulations to Harry Marchesi
We are training this coming Sunday and I would like to see as many players as possible as the following Sunday is the Crowborough B festival and a few things need addressing prior to the big day.
See you all on Sunday
Paul

Home - `A`Festival - Sunday 7th February 2010.

Ladies & Gentleman,
Well what can I possibly say after Sunday's tournemant?
I was so pleased to see everyone turn up and looking excited to be playing. First game of the day against Tunbridge Wells. 10 minutes each way so a strain on the boys leg's but Oh My what a game! A fun filled 20 minutes of some of the best Rugby I have ever seen our team play! Their minds were focussed on the game, their drive was astonoshing and just overall enthusiasm was spectacular. Two superb try's scored by Riley & a flying Harry Marchesi. The team's heads were lifted and, well I could just keep going! It was great to see the old Louis back! Determined and some excellent skills being aired! Harrison's determination in the rucks, Sam's beautiful tackling skills, William's animal instinct to just keep going, no matter how big the other players are, and and and............ Myself & Joe were VERY proud of them all! Especially the 2-0 score - Yes to US!
Game 2 - against Tonbridge Judds - a 40 minute rest seemed to go against us there! TJ's scored a very quick 1st try and immediately our heads were lowered. There was still some excellent play being made but unfortunately a 0-7 score was the outcome.
Game 3 - Old Elthamians - Generally the stronger team, however, Crowborough gave them a run for their money! Heads were lifted and the tackles were going in! Much better ball handling, even in the mud, boys appeared more focussed again. You could see the sparkle back in their eyes! Our pack were the strongest there and pushing the other teams all around the field. Justice not served though and a 1-4 final score brought us to 3rd position overall for the day!
Every member of the under 10's put in a fantastic effort on the day and it was a dream to watch. I would also like to mention Dan attending in the freezing cold to support his team. Fantastic to see & thanks Dan!
There are things for Joe, Mark & myself to concentrate on but we also have a great day to build on.
Please bring this email to their attention and we look forward to seeing everyone on Sunday.

Away - Brighton - 31st January 2010.

Well done to all the boys for the games at Brighton and you the parents for bringing them. We played two very good teams who certainly showed the boys how the game can be played. As always there are positives and a focus on positional play from the set piece to broken play will feature in training to bring on some excellent individual performances to the teams as whole.

The good news is we are training at the club on the 31st Jan, this will be the first time we have been at the club since the 22nd November, see the website for directions if you have forgotten.....................
10am start see you all there.

Just a reminder that it is our U9 and U10 'A' festival at Crowborough on the 7th Feb. We will select a squad of 13/14 boys for that but we will not have any separate training that day for those not selected as we shall have our hands full organising the day, so apologies in advance to those that do not get selected.

Thanks again
Joe
