Match Reports for 2011/12 Season

Sunday 6th November

Crowborough ‘’A’ Festival - Home

Match 1 - Crowborough 6 – Cranbrook 4

The first half was very much even play with the game flowing from end to end. There were plenty of good runs and tagging from both teams. Cranbrook scored firs,t but Alfie soon put Crowborough level. Two more tries for Cranbrook and a try from Charlie M put the half-time score at 2:3.

The 2nd half was dominated by Crowborough.  The first try was from Ollie, Crowborough then took advantage of Cranbrook running into touch by the Crowborough try line, allowing Jake to run the full length of the pitch to score the first of his 3 tries.  Cranbrook had to work hard to break through the Crowborough defence to score their only try of the half.

Crowborough try scorers:  Alfie (1),  Charlie M (1), Ollie (1), Jake (3)

Match 2 - Crowborough 5 – Eastbourne 6

Eastbourne started well with a quick try. Crowborough then had a good run with Keira , Theo and Alfie, moving the ball down the line. Unfortunately Eastbourne managed a turn-over and ran the full length of the pitch to score.  Charlie M scored a good try to pull one back just before Eastbourne scored again. At the restart Theo made a great run, dodging the Eastbourne defence to score.
The first half finished with a score of 4:2 to Eastbourne.

Jake scored the first try in the second half straight from the whistle. Some great tagging by the whole Crowborough team made life difficult for Eastbourne with them only scoring 2 tries in the whole half. Crowborough took advantage of their great defence and Eastbourne’s off-side by scoring 3 tries in the second half. Crowborough fought well with some brilliant tagging and finished the match only one try behind.

Crowborough try scorers:   Charlie M (1), Theo (1), Jake (3)

Match 3 - Crowborough 5 – Haywards Heath 5

Haywards Heath started play, but with some great defending and tagging by Crowborough, they had to work hard to score their first try. Crowborough (Charlie M) then broke through Hayward Heaths defence to score. Then, one more for Haywards Heath, despite some good defending from Crowborough.  Kiera then ran all the way from the half way line and through the Haywards Heath defence to score Crowborough’s 2nd try. Haywards Heath took one back on the half time whistle.

The second half started with some great passing by Crowborough, resulting in a try by Charlie .The next try went to Haywards Heath. With some great support running by Crowborough, Jake was able to score the next Crowborough try. In the next run of play Haywards Heath’s ball went into touch and Crowborough took advantage with some great runs, unfortunately a forward pass provided Hayward Heath the chance to take the lead.  After some great team work, Ollie score to tie the match.

Sunday 2nd October

Eastbourne Festival - Away

Having had a last minute invite to the friendly festival in Eastbourne we took a squad of 12 with the aim to give them a first taste of competitive games ahead of the Hastings festival. As it was a friendly each club was allowed to field more than one team with each team playing 4 games. So we entered a team of 7 and ran a Barbarian team with 5 of our players plus a couple of extras from Haywards Heath.

All 12 boys played brilliantly! The full Crowborough side won all 4 games against Haywards Heath, Hastings, Heathfield and the Barbarians with the last game against our Barbarian team being the closest!

The Barbarians lost the first game against Haywards Heath (mostly due to getting used to the new players in the first half), were unlucky to only draw against Uckfield, then had a comprehensive win over Heathfield before losing to our Crowborough side in the last game.

We received a number of compliments on how well the team had played!

It was a hot day and the whole squad played fantastically well  - the player of the week was harder than ever to decide as so many were deserving, but just edging it were Jake Rutherford and Alfie Lambden.

Match Reports for 2010/11 Season

Sunday 22nd November - Home - Against Tunbridge Wells.

Dear All,

Thanks again for taking the trouble to come up to the club to participate in the joint training session/games with Tunbridge Wells Rugby Club. The forecast was not encouraging and the conditions challenging to say the least! From the observations made by my fellow coaches and myself, we equipped ourselves very well indeed. Both teams did the club (and parents) proud. The coaching team from TWRFC were full of praise and were impressed to discover that it was our first official game.

We believed that Crowborough were superior in doing the drills and, slow start apart, matched them in the games. It was obvious that we were short of game play and it was always planned to play more games this season. This will continue at Haywards Heath on Sunday (29th). Additionally I would like to play some games against the Crowborough U7’s.

Well done boys!

Regards,

Daniel Roff
