The 2010/11 Season was the first for Crowborough 2’s in the Sussex Intermediate League. The goal was both to stay up and develop the fast paced, flowing rugby that gained promotion the previous season.
After a poor start, the 2’s strung together a 7 match, unbeaten post-Christmas run which eventually resulted in a 9th place league finish, just above the drop zone. There were many highlights. Tom Nowel and Jonny Powel turned into try scoring machines and the development of the 10/12 partnership between Nick Bell and Tom Fairfax – a key to the wins achieved in the latter part of the season. The pack, giving away weight to the slower units in the league, started to find their feet towards the end of the season and provided a platform from which the backs could deliver.
Looking ahead to the 2011/12 season, the 2’s are looking to start as they finished and will be integrated into a larger ‘Squad’ from which the 1st XV and 2nd XV will be selected. This will give a better route for player development between teams, and ensure the 2’s are pushing for a top 3 finish – and a shot at promotion.
2011/12 will also see the team continuing to be managed by Arran Faramus. Mathew Cheney also steps in to a more formal role of Vice Captain.
We would like to thank our Sponsor, Kitch Designer Wear of Tunbridge Wells, for ensuring we continue to be well turned out for the job at hand on a weekly basis!
