Our biggest defeat of the season !

Medway have strengthened their squad recently through the recruitment of several new quality players, with the goal of gaining promotion through the play-offs, now that Maidstone seem to have the one automatic promotion place sewn up. Earlier in the season when ‘Boro travelled to Medway there was little between the teams, with ‘Boro going down in the last five minutes by just 8 points.
Likewise, ‘Boro were also a much changed side last Saturday, not from recruitment, but from a devastating catalogue of injuries that has decimated their squad so much, that the treatment room resembles that of a busy A&E triage.
Crowborough have never cared too much about reputations, and from the whistle drove deep into the Medway half, where for ten minutes the ‘Boro pack battled to cross the line coming close on a couple of occasions, only for the well drilled professional Medway defence to deny the try, giving up a penalty instead which Chris Yates put away. Unfortunately for the next thirty minutes the half belonged to Medway as they ran in four converted tries against some ineffectual tackling, taking the half time score to 3-28, and with Tom Nicoll sin binned.
From the resumption Medway were soon back on the board following a bizarre incident that saw the ball knocked out of a defenders hands whilst in the dead ball area which Medway were first to pounce on to score 3-33.
Much to their credit ‘Boro would not lie down, and following a Matt Botterman run, Tom Nicoll carved a line through the Medway defence and slipped and inside pass to the supporting Ben Martyn to score under the posts that Chris Yates converted. 10-33
Medway however seemingly could score at will, and added to the tally with a well-constructed catch and drive that crossed the line for another converted try.10-40
Medway winger Charlie Wardzynski, already having scored two first half tries proceeded to bag two more, and would have had five but for a good cover tackle by Adam King. 10-52
With the clock running down ‘Boro added to their tally with a try by Gus O’Grady under the posts, and as an indication of the type of day that ‘Boro were enduring the kick was missed. 15-52. FT
However, more concerning than injured pride, were yet more injuries to Tom Nicoll, Andy Walters and Nik Pass adding to the growing list of availability concerns for this Saturday’s fixture against Deal.
