Eight Tries to One in favour of the Home side was the way it went......

Eight tries to one pretty well sums up last Saturdays encounter in Sevenoaks.
However, simply stated like that, it does not offer up the credit that the home side deserved. Crowborough came up against one of the two front runners for promotion at the top of their game.
Unlike the previous week, when the ‘Boro defence fronted up, and closed down the space before any attacking momentum could develop, this ‘Oaks side took the ball at pace, and with support players on either side of the ball carrier preparing to inject even more pace, the ‘Boro defence wavered; back-peddled, and ended up chasing shadows.
The ‘Boro pack, with the welcome return of Ben Martyn, held their larger rivals well, but the canny ‘Oaks back row’s ability to secure 50-50 possession out of sight of the official did lead indirectly to a score, although Crowborough can have little to complain about.
Two of the ‘Oaks scores came from well-constructed forward “catch and drives” from lineouts close to the ‘Boro line, but it was the backs who dominated the scores with some exquisite running lines and lessons in close support play.
Crowborough restored a little pride with a 70 metre breakaway by Ben Searle, with Sean Derrick in support to finish off the move that Chris Yates converted. This, alas, was not to be the start of some miraculous come-back fight, as ‘Oaks continued to keep the score board ticking over, seemingly scoring at will.
With Thanet Wanderers recording a remarkable and most unlikely win over impressive Horsham, only one point now separates them and ‘Boro from the second relegation spot and makes the game in hand against Hove quite crucial. This Saturday Crowborough welcome close neighbours and League leaders Tunbridge Wells to Steel Cross, Kick-off at 14.00pm.
