8. Crowborough PDG (Player Development Group)

Crowborough RFC Player Development Group (‘PDG’) is led by our Rugby Development Officer and Junior Lead, Ben Pollard. Ben is currently coaching in the Harlequins pathway, at both DPP and PDG levels between U14 and U18, and is also lead coach for Sussex RFU.

The aim of the programme is to continue supporting the development of our age-grade players who have aspirations of playing at a high level. It will also serve as a development opportunity for any club coaches who are keen to be involved, firstly in an observation capacity, then in co-coaching and leading on aspects of the programme. Coaches will then be offered the opportunity to develop their skills with experiences of different age groups at the club.

As a longer-term aim, CRFC are looking to continue developing our young players with the aim of improving their skills and exposing them to further opportunities at representative level (Sussex and Harlequins DPP) as well as developing players with the requisite skills and game knowledge to continue improving the standard of play in future 1st XV teams.

We plan to run a junior group for U13-U15 boys and U14-18 girls. The slightly more senior boys group (U16-U18) will train with Ben as part of the colts training.

Sessions will initially take place six times a season, with times and dates to be confirmed before the start of the season.

Age group coaches are asked to carefully consider which players should take part in this programme. Factors worthy of consideration should include the following:

- Players currently involved in the Harlequins/ Sussex pathway
- A good level of fitness and rugby understanding is important. This initial programme is not being designed for those with limited rugby knowledge, fitness or experience.
- Players who the coaching staff believes have good potential and/or need challenging further.
- Players with positive attitude and commitment to the club.

Whilst we fully appreciate that this is a programme aimed at those who may be considered our strongest age-group players, please do not think that we do not have a commitment to improving our players who are not yet at this level. These players will continue to be supported in their rugby through their own coaches, who will themselves be able to access coach-development opportunities and further support at any point throughout the season.
