Wooden Spoon VetsFest takes place on 7th October this year where all the regional teams of England along with teams representing Scotland and Wales compete. The event is played by veteran rugby players in aid of disadvantaged and disabled children across the country with the money raised in Sussex to be spent on local projects.
Last year Nigel Pooley captained the Sussex team achieving 2nd place overall in the competition alongside 10 other players from Crowborough. He has once again been chosen to lead this year’s squad which this time includes 11 from Crowborough along with players from six other clubs. They are determined to better last year's result and bring back some silverware.
This year for the first time there is also a women’s competition where our very own U10’s coach, Caroline Watkins has been tasked with captaining the Sussex ladies. She has amassed a very strong squad of players from 11 clubs across the county and is hoping to mirror the expectations of the men’s team.
