No match report - just a few comments from Bleater, courteous of his daily column on the website ....

He writes :

We took a decent contingent to Lewes yesterday with a number of new and old players getting their first real taste of full on contact rugby ahead of the new season. Thankfully the Lewes pitch was well covered with grass and marginally less concrete-like than Steel Cross. Before the RFUs league restructuring this would have been a mid level 7 clash versus a mid level 9 clash. Quite a disparity in standard. Now it is just one league placing but the gap was still very evident. At times Crowborough were ruthless with some amazing free flowing rugby. Tries aplenty and all too often little to do defensively. Under new coach Jody Levett and the forensic eye of Stuart Thresher the boys showed a lot of promise. To be fair Lewes stuck at it and strangely I think they would have benefitted more than we did. As the game progressed so their defensive alignment improved and when they had the ball they started to play some good quality cohesive rugby managing to go over for several tries of their own.

I am sure Jody and the two Stuarts would want another warm-up game before Ashford next Saturday but it isn’t going to happen. A number of boys who played well yesterday are not available next week so those who do play will need to be at their best. Ashford v Thanet was one of the few games to go ahead in our league yesterday; Counties Kent 1. Ashford triumphed 13-3. Now the season has started I will get back into the old routine of a full results review on a Monday.
