Crowborough continued their fine run of games with their fifth consecutive win of this year. League survival, something that would have been hard to contemplate prior to Christmas, was, and still is not entirely their gift to give, as Thanet Wanderers are still very much in the mix in 9th place.
First up was a must win, bonus point game against Aylesford Bulls, who were also on a fine run of post-Christmas results.
Tries from Alex Purnell, Dave Bennett, Rob Lester, and Matt Botterman, with added points by Ollie Clinch secured the bonus point win, only marred by two late tries by the visitors in the final five minutes of added time.
Again the pack were instrumental in laying the platform for the win, with Will Creasey and Andy Kidd featuring strongly as they drove relentlessly into the heart of the Aylesford defence, sucking in cover before releasing the backs.
As the teams returned to the changing room, news that Ashford had fallen short 26-19 in their quest to win away to Thanet Wanderers, whose bonus point win maintains the two point difference between 9th and 10th place.
It really does now go down to the wire, with Crowborough hosting promotion chasing second placed Bromley RFC next Saturday 18/3/23 KO 3:00pm. Although there are various combinations and mathematical scenarios, the best and simplest result would be a win of any description, which would take the Sussex side into 9th place and potential safety. A large crowd is anticipated for this winner take all clash. Don’t miss it!!
