After Seven Straight Wins in London South East Three, And Despite an indifferent performance, Away at Hellingly

Match Report by Rick Howe .

With such a score line one may be forgiven in believing that this was a cracker of a game. It wasn’t.
With ‘Boro’s backs division shorn of many of it’s more creative individuals, as England took on South Africa at Twickenham, it was left to the well drilled ‘Boro eight to bully and steamroller the home sides pack into submission.
For practically the whole eighty minutes, the two packs slugged it out, trundling up and down the pitch, resulting in Crowborough crossing the white wash six times through forwards Richard Tasker, Matt Botterman, `Man of the Match` Alex Purnell x 2, Andy Orchard, and Tom Kent, with a pressurised penalty try and just one well worked backs score as Connor Hand rounded his opposite number fending him off with a strong hand off.
Although effective, it was less than compelling viewing for the travelling faithful, indeed it was the home sides three scores engineered by their excellent #10 and scored by their mercurial left wing that that brought the touchline to life, when the narrow ‘Boro defence committed the cardinal sin of allowing the attackers too much space to build up momentum.
On a positive note, the collapse seen in the second half of their two previous matches when posting large first half scores was averted as the score board continued to tick interminably over. This result sees Crowborough stretch their lead at the top of the league to eight points, but with only eight games played and fourteen games still to go it is way too early to crow.
A few niggling injuries were picked up, but with next week being a non-league weekend there will be plenty of time for the clubs medical team to get the side back to it’s free flowing best for their next encounter at home against high flying Beccehamians on 17th November.
Over at St Leonards Cinque Ports the Crowborough second string ran out 19-15 winners, and now sit at the top of Sussex three east merit league.
