Crows go down to HWRFC

Crows go down to HWRFC

David Shortland30 Mar 2015 - 07:16

Miserable afternoon in Heathfield (and not just the weather)

Another Derby day was upon us with the Crows heading over to Heathfield. Unfortunately again due to injuries etc in the club the fixture turned out to be a friendly.

The weather had taken a turn with spine chilling winds and light drizzly rain. This obviously had an effect on the Heathfield forwards as they decided to go uncontested in the scrums giving the crows an immediate 10-0 lead.

Richard Whittaker managed to increase the score breaking through the oppositions defence scoring on the left hand side of the post which John Ems beautifully converted.

Heathfield fought back however scoring a couple of tries. I'm not sure how many they got as I was subbed after 20 minutes, threw a strop and went and had a shower.

The game started to get very feisty with a spectacular dump tackle from Skippy on their 7 (which in fairness was controlled and the ref was happy with it), an alleged eye gouge from George Devereese (some say he was using the oppositions face to help him back to his feet) an innocent high tackle from John Elms which Richard Tasker would be proud of, along with all the cheeky punches here and there and the Crow who apparently had sharp finger nails and was asked to bite them off!

When I wasn't sulking and watching the Quins game in the club house with Mooney jr, I saw there were some lovely breaks from the wingers, didn't see much from Ed Radford he was probably dropping the ball somewhere.

The game ended 44-17. This was very disappointing but the match food lovely, it was simply meatballs and pasta which was delightful. Delightful enough for George Bigwood to have 3 servings.

The sports didn't stop there with a game of who can score the highest on the dartboard at the Kings. The competitions were left handed, right handed and with your eyes shut. What could possibly go wrong!

The Weekend finished with a mini Sunday Funday where I saw Dave Radford, who knew he was still about! And a game of killer which We all lost because we got hustled by Katie Sayer.

In conclusion to the gloomy day out, the weather did not compliment what was a miserable day and I found out Ed Radford is really really mean.

There is no fixture this weekend due to Easter however the week after the crows travel down to Cinque Port!
