With what was supposed to be the last game of the season the crows headed to down to Bexhill. The morning did not start well with a few players dropping out meaning we travelled down with 16 players, however a few of the 2s agreed to come along to support the team. The sun was out the beers were flowing I was very much enjoying myself until I was asked to fill up the water bottles! Post surgery just to add so everyone knows the hero I am.... The game started well cinque ports were attacking well keeping the crows in their own 22, however the boys did not give up keeping the opposition at bay for a good 25 minutes giving Ports no choice but to kick for 3 points! Ash Ludgate took a blow to the head and came off for Dave Shortland. It must have been bad because Ash was very calm and friendly something definitely wasn't right!!
Now down to a 15 man squad the crows fought on with Luke Wratten running in 2 brilliant tries. Disaster struck through when Michael Van-Someren had to go to hospital with a suspected broken wrist leaving 14 men playing for most of the second half. Jacob Davey's quick thinking and explosiveness earned him a try with James twinkle toes Crouch beautifully converting it. Jacob Davey also had a chance to clear the ball from his own try line however the ball struck the cross bar and went backwards leaving then ref (Ports former number 10) scratching his head.
With about 10 minutes to go we were only down 24-17 however Cinque Ports with there strong 23/24 man squad had the legs and ran in a couple of late tries leaving the final score 48-17
The boys played very well and it was one of the best defences I've seen all season. A big thank you to all the 2s who came along I hope you enjoyed it and I hope you will play for us again when you don't have a game.
A quick mention about the minis finals in Sunday. Yet another beautiful day with John McGinley, Matt Kipping, Luke Wilkinson and myself on car parking duties what could of possibly gone wrong! We we asked to look after people's dogs, moaned at when people turned up late with no parking spaces left but frankly we couldn't get care after the first few beers. It was great getting involved and the atmosphere down the club was great.
We have a break this weekend but Hellingly 2s at home the week after for our final game of the season which I hope to see you all there.
