On Saturday 5th August CRFC old farts, aka walking rugby, hosted nine old farts from Old Reigations and much fun was had by all, despite the horrendous conditions. Yes it was cold and wet, very wet, in fact persisting down. Nine stalwarts from ORs joined 13 from CRFC splitting up into various groups for several sessions of 7 minutes of rugby. It was amazing how good some of the handling was, and this from a mixture of former players and those new to the game. The session was rounded off with a CRFC v ORs contest. I think ORs took the spoils but absolutely no one gave a damn. It was great fun.
The final whistle saw a rapid exodus towards the welcoming hot showers, followed by a beer or three and a wonderful meal (thanks Jacqui). Plenty of banter ahead of that evening’s Wales v England game ensued.
For those who might be jaundice about walking rugby let me tell you it is more knackering than you think. The benefits from the exercise and the social interaction cannot be ignored. It is big, and for all, very important.
Thursday at 6pm if you want to give it a go. Steel Cross. All are welcome
